How does BOTOX® Work?
Wrinkles are caused by a number of different factors. One of these factors is muscle movement. The daily formation of facial expressions can slowly cause wrinkles and folds to develop over time.
BOTOX® treats these wrinkles by targeting the muscles that cause them. As a neuromodulator, BOTOX® temporarily paralyzes these muscles, relaxing them and smoothing your wrinkles in the process It uses a diluted solution of botulinum toxin to do this. The targeted facial muscles are carefully selected, so you can still look like yourself, move your face normally, and have a wrinkle-free appearance.
The process of receiving BOTOX® is fairly quick and simple. While you will probably experience some degree of discomfort during the injections, each series of injections typically take only a few minutes. While it generally takes 3 to 7 days to see the full effects of your injections, slight improvements in the appearance of your wrinkles can be seen almost instantaneously.
While BOTOX® injections are effective, they are unfortunately not permanent. Because the relaxation of your muscles is only temporary, these injections must be readministered periodically to maintain results. The effects of each injection typically last between 4 and 7 months.

Ideal candidates are physically healthy, have no history of muscle or nerve problems, and are not allergic to the botulinum toxin that BOTOX® is primarily composed of. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding are also unable to receive BOTOX® Cosmetic.
