Dermal fillers are an amazing form of treatment for those suffering from scars, wrinkles, and lost facial volume. They offer a non-surgical alternative to some forms of cosmetic surgery, while still providing significant results that require little to no downtime or sedation. Here is some information about the various types of fillers that are available to help you decide which dermal filler is right for you and your individual needs and goals.
The gradual age-related loss of facial volume is one of the chief causes of lines and wrinkles. As you grow older and are exposed to environmental pollutants, your skin can become thinner and more prone to the development of fine lines and wrinkles that can leave you looking older than your age.
If you are looking to increase the thickness of your facial skin, a PMMA-based collagen filler may fit the bill. Collagen is a naturally-occurring substance produced by your own body in abundance when you are young. Growing older eventually leads to a loss of collagen production and the resulting thinning of your skin. By injecting your face with a dermal filler containing collagen, such as Bellafill®, we are helping to restore your collagen levels and rebuild facial volume to cause a reduction in fine lines and wrinkles.
Increasing Volume and Hydration
If you are dealing with both wrinkles and dry skin, a hyaluronic acid dermal filler is probably your best bet. Like collagen, hyaluronic acid is a naturally-occurring substance that your own body produces. This important skin component has the unique ability to attract and bind water molecules, leading to a hydrating and plumping effect on your skin.
By injecting you with a hyaluronic acid filler, we are replacing much of the naturally-occurring hyaluronic acid that you have lost due to aging. This allows your skin to attract and retain more moisture, leading to thicker skin that is more hydrated.
If you are not extremely picky about dermal fillers, an injection with Sculptra® is a good general type of dermal filler when you are seeking a reduction in lines and wrinkles. Sculptra® contains polylactic acid, which is a synthetically produced substance that encourages your body to form brand new collagen fibers, resulting in the reduction of fine lines and wrinkles. It can also be used to treat acne scars and, at Rio Medical, we use it for butt lift procedures as well.
