What is KYBELLA®?

KYBELLA® is the only FDA-approved injectable exclusively used to correct submental fullness in the chin. This submental fullness is more casually referred to as “the double chin”.

The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is deoxycholic acid. This is a chemical that naturally occurs in the body, and aids in the breakdown and absorption of fat. When injected into chin fat, it triggers the breakdown and reabsorption of that fat over time.

What Should I Expect from Treatment? 

Each treatment session typically takes no longer than 20 minutes. While there is some degree of discomfort experienced during injections, this pain can be lessened with the addition of lidocaine, a topical numbing anesthetic. Unlike other methods of treating submental fat, KYBELLA® treatments involve absolutely no downtime. As soon as treatment is done, you can return to your daily routine.

While most patients need to undergo multiple treatment sessions to get dramatic, long lasting results, the number of treatments recommended will depend on the amount of fat you’d like reduced. Am I a Good Candidate?

While KYBELLA® is excellent for reducing the amount of fat under the chin, it can not be used to treat excess or loose skin. It’s also important to remember that KYBELLA® is not a weight loss treatment, so it will only be effective on moderate to mild cases of submental fullness. Nearly all patients at or near their ideal weight that would like to decrease their amount of submental fat are good candidates for this treatment.
